My “Garden”

Posted on: 11/03/2011

Apparently, even a garden woefully neglected can bear fruits. My “garden” consists of a roughly 1’x2′ bed right alongside our rental house. This spot is not the best for a garden. It baked in the TX summer heat & recently got a bit flooded by rain water dripping off the roof (no gutters). It’s not much of a garden, really. There are several cucumber plants that produced in abundance for a couple of months as well as a few watermelon & tomato plants that grew, but never bore fruits.

Ever since we finally got rain (for those who are unaware, TX has been in a drought since last year), I’ve not really tended to our garden. All of the mosquitoes, which I’m allergic to, have finally hatched & my plants seemed to have stopped producing, so I left the “garden” alone for a few weeks, occasionally watering it, but not often.

Imagine my surprise upon discovering several cucumbers hiding under the leaves a few days ago!

I’m going to be a bit more mindful of the garden & try to get a few more cukes before the cool weather decides to stick around.
